About Parse The Vote
Parse The Vote is an initative of The UP Parser that aims to encourage students of the Department of Computer Science (DCS), College of Engineering, University of the Philippines Diliman to vote during the University Student Council and Engineering Student Council Elections 2009. It also aims to help DCS students vote wisely.
Last year, only 47.9% of students from the College of Engineering voted during the USC Elections (Source: University Student Electoral Board, from Tinig Ng Plaridel). Moreover, only around one hundred out of almost five hundred DCS students voted during the Codified Rules for Student Regent Selection referendum last January 2009. Clearly, not many DCS students exercise their right to vote.
The UP Parser intends to change that through a campaign wherein advertisements are posted around the Alumni Engineers Centennial Hall (AECH), the Department of Computer Science building, that reminds DCS students to vote on election day.
In addition, most DCS students are uninformed regarding the backgrounds and platforms of USC and ESC candidates, especially those from outside of the department. Thus, this website was launched, with the goal of informing DCS students about the election details, updating them on the latest news about the election, and even more importantly, providing profiles of and information about the candidates.
About The UP Parser
The official student publication of the Department of Computer Science, UP Diliman
Established in 1999, the UP Parser is the College of Engineering's first and foremost department-based publication. Carrying the motto "Analyzing Life the CS Way", Parser aims to be the voice of the Department of Computer Science (DCS), a mediator between the department and student body, as well as an outlet for skilled programmer-journalists.
UP Parser services one of the College's youngest and proudest departments. It does so in three varieties, namely the print circulation, electronic-mail newsletter, and website. Through these, we at UP Parser can claim that Engineering students are not merely one-dimensional persons, but rather people who can also display journalistic and literary aptitude.
UP Parser is dedicated to offering you the latest CS news and views, come storm or high water, come layout difficulties or botched sponsorship deals, come controversy or turmoil. We're going to be here, as long as the DCS lives.
At UP Parser, we don't just write programs... we write!
