The UP Parser
Official Publication of the Department of Computer Science

The UP Parser is the College of Engineering's first and foremost department-based publication. Carrying the motto "Analyzing Life the CS Way", Parser aims to be the voice of the Department of Computer Science (DCS), a mediator between the department and student body, as well as an outlet for skilled programmer-journalists.

Parser was established in 1999, with Maru Velas as its founding Editor-in-Chief. The publication's maiden issue commenced a five-year tradition that found itself in peril when the paper disappeared from the public eye in 2002, three years from its inception.

But one can't keep a good thing away for so long, and Parser underwent a renaissance two years later. Through the stalwart efforts of the AY 2004-05 CS Representatives Carlos Lasa, Ponch Mante, Chicco Reyes, and Michael Sepulveda, Parser was remade in July 8, 2004. A month later, the publication would launch its ‘rebirth' issue with Phillip Kimpo, Jr. as its new Editor-in-Chief.

Today, Parser continues to service one of the College's youngest and proudest departments. It does so in four varieties, namely the print circulation, bulletin board version, electronic-mail newsletter, and website, the URL of which can be seen in the header above. Through these, we at Parser can claim that Engineering students are not merely one-dimensional persons, but rather people who can also display journalistic and literary aptitude.

Parser is dedicated to offering you the latest CS news and views, come storm or high water, come layout difficulties or botched sponsorship deals, come controversy or turmoil. We're going to be here, as long as the DCS lives.

The UP Parser. We don't just write programs; we write.
